Predictably, the Daily Telegraph has recieved complaints about its comment pieces expressing worry that the 9/11 rememberance is being overtaken by kitsch. In today’s DT, there is a measured response to these criticisms. It is rather sad to see anyone suggest that the author of the peice wanted those who died on 9/11 to be “forgotten”. I am in no doubt that she has spared us some of the nastier emails she must have gotten. As I have said before, we should remember those who died that horrid day, but we need not turn it into a Disney-esque cavalcade of mourning. It will, as it has with Diana, cause sympathy fatigue, which will ultimately do harm to the memories of those who died.
