In response to some of the comments for my gays and metal post.
GnR did one song called ‘One in Million’ which was satire…but totally misunderstood. Americans as a whole don’t do satire or irony very well. It could be argued that Axl should have known that but didn’t give a shit. Most of the people who had a cow about the whole ‘Lies’ record were not hard rock or metal fans, anyway, and just wanted an excuse to lay into the genre.
As was said before, Halford was an open secret since the 80s, and NO ONE gave a damn…ditto Joan Jett and several of the other gay rockers. The reason Halford has not sold that well is that most of his post-Judas Priest material has been total rubbish (Two= ew!), barring his second to last outing.
The genres of both hard rock and metal are both very androgynous. Think 80s Glam: Cinderella, Britney Fox, Faster Pussycat, Dogs D’Amour, TigerTailz, & Poison et al. Men looked like women, women looked like men (in some cases), and no one cared, especially backstage. If it moved you tried to shag it, no matter what sex it is or used to be, or, in some cases, species.
