A Note From The Editor’s Desk….....
The following is an introductory commentary from Andrew prior to his going to the Tory Conf starting this coming Monday.
.............................................
A week from today the Tories will be congregating in Bournemouth, desperately trying to find where their mojo went. Thanks to Currie and Major, there will be those digging for more dirt. The rest of the party will be desperately grasping at something to get it into gear. The trouble is, like all political parties, there will be lots of suggestions, few practical. The wets will want the party to apologise to Clarke & Co and beg them to come lead the party to victory. The Monday Club/”Conservative Democrats”/crypto-fascists will want a return to authoritarian policies. And the Portillistas will be convincing us all that the prodigal son must return. Problem being, they will all be missing a big point.
Many Tories have been searching for their own “Clause 4”...the holy grail that will lead them to victory. Unfortunately, that holy grail is right before them all, and it is not turning turtle on the €URO. The Tories must drop their support for Clause 28. It is a milestone around their neck which makes much of their recent rhetoric about “inclusiveness” ring untrue. As Iain Murray stated recently there are other activities that are distasteful that do not require their own teaching ban; why should homosexuality be any different? Homosexuals are as old as the human race; surely not teaching about them is a inaccurate view of mankind. Other minorities are covered in great detail, why avoid just the homosexuals. Homosexuality should not be taught as a preferred lifestyle; but basic facts about it are appropriate. If one believes, as do I, gay men are not made but born that way, it is not as if teaching about homosexuals will “convert” anyone. Just as teaching about Islam or Wicca in Comparative Religion will not turn everyone into an extremist or a witch. The Conservatives need to stop seeming as though they are bunch of paranoids.
What will be interesting to see is if anyone else “comes out” before conference to aid the inclusiveness cause. There are certainly enough homosexual and bisexual MPs and activists to provide a big pool. It is nice to see that IDS is planning to attend the homosexual party at Conference. It will be interesting to see those who will attend just to be seen “with the leader” and whether they can hide their distaste for the event. There will be those who stay just as long as the leader is there, let us hope it is not too many to make it too obvious.
Gays in the party need to do their part as well, instead of hiding their sexuality. They should be open about it. In this way it will help those uncomfortable with it be able to be around out “normal” gay men. The campaign to overturn the party position must be one of winning internal “hearts & minds” and not slamming the party from the outside (as it has been in the past.) It would be nice if certain homosexuals, male and female, would drop their hypocritical public stance on the matter. Why is it that certain people seem to think no one else can do as they wish, but privately, they can?
With a bit of tact and discussion, it will be possible for the party to move out of this cul-de-sac. Let us hope the party can finally lance the boil that is Section 28/homosexuals and the Conservatives.
As they say in some circles, but most probably not in Islington, mind, “treat it like a fence…and get over it!”

The b.f.h. that is Edwina Currie gets a a pasting in the DT today. Well deserved, methinks. This selfish cow (with apologies to cows), in an effort to plug her new book, chooses to launch her little “surprise” the week before the Tory Party Conf…all because she has a new “novel” coming out. There are many who are wondering whether or not she has the gall to show up next week; alas, I think she does, in spades…no doubt with a slew of slavering press behind her.

It seems that Conservative Future is living up to its unkind nickname; Conservative F**&-ups. This time the younger arm of the Tory Party has made a total balls up of its yearly elections. It seems they have lost the list of members eligible to vote.
First the “Chill-out Zone” foolishness, then this. What are they on upstairs at CCO, these days? Is it any wonder why noone over the age of 24 would be caught dead at a CF event? (Well unless they are Tory MPs trying to pull young men.)

We have now found out why the Major government was so bad in its final years, thanks to the the Sun. It seems he was having it off with “author” harpie Edwina Currie. This cretinous woman thankfully lost her seat in 97’ but continues to publish what she calls novels. They often when the literary “bad sex” award. In one cases she won for the lame use of the term “thrusting buttocks.” She now works for the Beeb; making snide remarks about her former party on her trite talk radio show.
I really feel sorry for Norma, having her husband cheat on with that bitch! Lets hope the Daily Mail starts a letter writing campaign to get her pulled by the BBC.

From the Countryside Alliance:
“Yesterday, the number of those who registered to March in Spirit was 102,565 which takes the number supporting the March well over the half million mark. Names + addresses and emails (clearly written) may be sent to 367 Kennington Rd London SE11 4PT or marchinspirit@countryside-alliance.org”Imagine if this many “insert minority here” protested to the government. The government would be in an uproar and calling for an inquiry and/or calling for immediate action.
Prince Charles is right; countryside people are treated worse than ethnics in the UK.

Today I finally joined Apple’s .Mac. This is the email I sent Apple explaining my feelings about their new service:
I have just signed up for .Mac, however it fills me with great anger to do so. I only want an email for forwarding purposes. The rest of your features are useless to me and I resent having to pay for them. Most of the .Mac services are utterly useless on a 56k line and some are redundant since most ISPs give one disc space as well. I think it would be advisable if Apple were to provide a min spec service just for email forwarding (for a charge of say $9.95 a year.) Apple is behaving like MS and I find it a great pity. I am a journalist (Mac) and next week I will make my feelings clear. How can Apple be so short-sighted and foolish? Or is Apple just a bunch of greedy bastards like Dell and MS?It is my understanding that as of last week 100k people had signed up for .Mac. Apple is proud of this despite the fact that Mac.com had had over 2.5 million users. Apple has gone into one of their “screw the users” periods. Let’s hope they get out of it soon. Well, it seems if you mention Hell in your blog, you get lots of hits. This hellish problem makes those wishing to find Satan everywhere being convinced that bloggers are satanist and pagans. As someone who recently was described as Ba’al, Lord of Chaos, I understand this. There are a lot of people who wish to find Satanists and hellish behaviour everywhere. One wonders if sometimes it’s wishful thinking. This lot see the coming of Satan and the second coming everywhere, even in fields and the news. Funny thing is, thier research is rather good and a great resource for anyone writing fiction with any occult aspects. Dodgeblogium is not a haven for either satanists, denizens of hell, or the dark.

Getting linked two days in a row by I-P, as he is known in the blogbiz, is a rare treat; the poor little counter on this site, which usually chugs along at a slow, steady walk, suddenly found itself galloping to keep up. We hope that the new readers have found the linked articles worthwhile, and, more importantly, found other things good enough to warrant coming back on their own each day in the future.

This may shock a few people, but I am going to praise this Labour Government. The one thing they have done right is to raise the fares for London’s cabbies. (Why there needs to be a standard pricing system is beyond me but…) Thanks to this change there are now considerably more cabs around late at night, when there used to be almost none. (Which is exactly what the fare rise was meant to do.) As someone who routinely comes back to my flat from Central London after midnight, I do so appreciate not having to deal with scumbag mini-cab drivers. More importantly, I prefer to see my lady friends being sent home in a black cab rather than in a dodgy mini-cab. It is cheaper for me as well, since I tend to to pay if I have kept the young lady out late in London town =;)p

”’There was one clear message on the day: urban folk need to pay attention to the concerns of the countryside or face the results of their foolishness’Well, I will take your last point first. I agree with the end to subsidies for farmers, 100%. Britain needs to get out of the CAP (and the EU?) as well, which is a source of mounds of paper-work, graft, and massive waste.Wow, that sounds so macho! Will there be a Yokels Liberation Army? A Carrot Crunchers Congress? Of course there won’t.
The Countryside Alliance is a ragbag of ‘causes’ led by countryside toffs, peeved that they might get some legislation thrown at them. They’re just not used to being told what to do. Their freedom to hunt may be worth going on a march for (although let’s hope it is banned so that Prince Charles and his family leave the country) but all of the other stuff, the moans about supermarkets and new houses and post offices closing…these are the results of a free market and that is what the Yokels were voting for in the 1980s and 1990s. Expecting sympathy from others (Townies) who have had to live in a less subsidised world for a long time is a bit rich.
End subsidised farming now!a richards”
It would be a pity to see Charles leave. I am not sure if he would make a good King, but he is a decent enough chap. With the Tory Party so useless and the Lib Dems behaving as if collectively insane, it is a good thing he, at least, is speaking up on issues.
Your remark about the Countryside Alliance is just plain BBC crap; not accurate in the least. The march was not all Toffs in any way shape or form. As one who was there I can tell you there was very little tweed (a myth that the BBC is peddling) and a lot of “ordinary” people. The only really toff accents I heard were from a friend of mine and her parents. There were “posh” accents about but they were in no way in the majority. I spoke to many people who admitted to voting Labour and thus shooting themselves in the foot. The urbanite left continue to repeat that the whole Countryside issue is an excuse for Toffs to cause a stink. That is a load of rubbish, and one hopes that the march just might have changed a few minds.
The trouble with the Post Office issue is that because it is part of the public sector it is unable to react to the changing market. I mean, how can you take an institution seriously that was lobbying for a tax on email to help pay for the loss of revenue in the PO. If the PO does not want to lose market share it should improve service. I was at an AGM, last night, of an organisation that is having problems getting mailings out because the PO routinely loses their mailings or does not deliver them. Guess what we decided to do? As much as possible will now done by email, and we will limit our dealings with the PO as much as possible.
The march was about a lot more than the freedom to hunt; it was about government behaviour towards the countryside as a whole. I would not bet on some of those there not engaging in civil disobediance or direct action. Do I expect riots on the streets of London? No, not any time soon. I do expect to see people hunting come what may and inviting arrest. Under-estimate them at your peril.

Sunday saw an estimated 407,000 people descend on London to express their outrage at the behaviour of the Labour Government towards the countryside. It would be possible to argue that the figure was closer to 500,000, as there were many who could not stay to make it all the way, due transport issues. However, still, at 400,000, it is the largest march in British history, larger than the poll tax march/riots or anything the anti-nuclear brigade could ever muster. There were only 4 arrests and they were all anti-hunt thugs. The march was peaceful and pleasant but with purpose, a very serious purpose. It is a purpose that many of the media pundits don’t, can’t, or refuse to get, and one that Blair does not care to hear.
The media pundits were claiming to be confused by the message of the march; that it did not have “one clear message” because so many interests were involved. Of course there were others claming we were all a bunch of sick sadistic bastards bent on killing poor “innocent” foxes. Neither, of course, is true. There was one clear message on the day: urban folk need to pay attention to the concerns of the countryside or face the results of their foolishness. Surely the fact that there were people who queued for 3 or more hours demonstrates the level of feeling of those involved.
There were a lot of different types involved; ranging from fox, game, and bird hunters to farmers to anti-GM/globilisation types. No one in their right mnd would argue that the libertarians on the march would agree with all the farmers demands for more subsidy or that we would necessarily agree that GM food is bad. There were rural poor and old who were angry that their post offices and schools are being closed. There were people there annoyed at the high fuel tax that they need to drive their cars and vehicles. The point they were making is that the government and urban media types don’t give a damn what they think. They merely impose the urban will on the rural areas, the results be damned.
There were polite but firm rumblings about more “direct action” if this march fails to result in anything positive for them. These calm passive country folk are sick of getting the crap kicked out of them and are going to get their own back. It will not be pretty and it could end the Labour Government. As the Daily Telegraph states today, no one in government has seemed to even notice the masses of people in London over the weekend. The Blair Broadcasting System covered it as little as possible and gave as much time to 20 hunt protesters as they did to 400,000 marchers. The mood in the country is clearly darkening, and who knows what will come out of it. While Blair is worried about his backbenchers over war with Iraq he is ignoring millions of rural folk who are going to come after him, all guns blazing.
The Country is revolting, and this time the Royals are on their side. The next time, Mr Blair, they will not come to praise you but to bury you.

Well, a new blogburst has begun; this time it’s about a lighter subject: Buffy & her chums. I have a confession to make; I never used to like Buffy. Thought it was pap lame American crap. Trouble was, I watched a few from the first series, which, let’s face it, sucked! I was re-introduced to Buffy via my close personal female friend who is not my girlfriend. She also introduced me to Angel, which is trs cool show. Since she does not have Sky, I have had to tape Buffy for her to see. Watched a few episodes of the last series and I got more interested. Angel, on the other hand, was damn good straight out of the box. It’s witty and very clever. Buffy is now witty, with several characters like Giles and Spike able to deliver one liners like Jackie Mason.
Never really horror, never really cheesy like say the X Files, Buffy/Angel deliver a decent hour long show. One can only imagine what Giles’ new show Ripper will be like. As Marty is a member of the London Vampire Group, there is a fair to middling chance that he might actually get to be part of the show. Although, Marty assures me he would prefer to be cast as a werewolf rather than a vampire! Oddly enough, Buffy has always been kind to the furry ones; there was even a character Oz who was a lycanthrope. Buffy was very sweet to him and drove off the nasty werewolf hunter after he tried to kill Oz. They do seem to think that all werewolves are horny as a bitch in hea…wait a second, that’s true.

From the Countryside Alliance.
Yesterday we made history. The countryside spoke with 407,791 voices. Everyone must be so proud to have been a part of the day that MUST make a difference – politicians must understand that they ignore us at their peril. It is now Parliament’s responsibility to translate an historic march into a just and evidence based decision for Hunting, and to recognise the other concerns of an undervalued community.Thank you to everybody who played a part in creating such a memorable and powerful day.
Please add even more value by writing to your MP, and your local paper – telling of your experiences – remember yesterday took 24 hours of your time, a letter will take 10 minutes.
It was a job seriously well done. While the countryside went to London reverberations of our protest were felt across the country – even on the Richter scale!”
Fortunately the march was better organised than the excreable Liberty Party I attended on Saturday night. Shit venue, music, and attendance did not impress. The rival party was said to be a crashing success…damn and damn again! Oh yes and all the decent totty (especially non-jailbait) was at the other party as well!

Charles Kennedy wants to turn British teenagers into a bunch of wankers? Well, Cuthbertson seems to think so. There are several fallacies in Peter’s post. Does he honestly believe that 16 year olds (and younger) don’t have access to porn already? When I was that age and even younger it was terribly easy to get ahold of it. I would argue just the opposite; I think it is healthy for 16 year olds to have access to the stuff. Most will eventually grow out of it, finding it boring compared to the real thing. Surely it is bad for young adults (male) to have a puritan view of sex and sexuality.
This line from his post is even more preposterous, “which, incidentally, confirms my own private theory that once someone is perverted enough they automatically become bisexual.” What evidence does Peter have for this? There are plenty of “perverts” who never dream of trying the “dark side”. Does Peter truly believe that anyone who is interestested in different forms of sexual pleasure is automatically then bisexual? Of course, he also brings up pedophilia and the fact that the raids on pedophiles turn up porn. Surely Peter knows that child porn is illegal. Is implying that anyone who is adventurous sexually is bound to end up wanting to have sex with children? I really don’t see the link between the fetishist who attends the Torture Garden or Submission and some sleazoid surfing ftp sites for pictures of 9 year-old boys. There is huge difference between what is done by consenting adults and illegal activites of adults against small children. Or are they all the same in the mind of people like Peter?
Quite why Charles Kennedy MP thinks it’s an issue for his party to address, I don’t understand. Not exactly an election winner, one would think. He thinks everyone should have access to hard-core porn. Um, Charlie, they do; its called the internet, you ginger-haired twit!

Andrew has finally reported in from the Countryside March to say that he will be writing about it tomorrow, as he is fair knackered from the walking, which is not totally unexpected. After a March, one does have to return to the starting point and then home.
