Well this is a shock. I was expecting to be to the extreme right on both Conservative and Libertarian. Surely I am not mellowing in my old age?

Further on that “age” problem rearing its ugly head within the Tory Party:

A Telegraph leader defends “spotty Tories” who are under attack from Lord Tebbit. The worrying thing is that there are many of the older Tory set who have a distrust for anyone under 40. He is just fanning the flames of the age split in the Tory Party. There are some
that would rather see the party die…literally, than to adapt or change. Despite protestations from some in the party to the contrary, the Blue Rinse brigade are slowly strangling the Tory Party. The trouble is, they know it and don’t seem to care.

A classic response in a Letter to the D-T:
“Re: Maturing into a Tory
Date: 19 August 2002
Sir – Alan Marsden suggests that the Conservative Party should launch a focus group to figure out what to do with young members (letter, Aug. 17).

Ah, the innocence of youth. The party already has a perfectly workable approach: simply wait until time solves the problem. I joined the party quite a few years ago and have so far been offered exciting volunteer roles from leaflet stuffing to door knob polishing. On my 40th birthday, however, I expect Central Office to invite me to sit with the grown-ups.

Q: How many Tory activists does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Bugger off! We’re not changing anything.

Need I say more!

From a potential Dodgeblog reader:

“ps – you will be delighted to know that your blog’s content is so incendiary
that my work blocks it using the sonicwall content regulation system. What
sort of stuff do you put up? ”

He is right I find this most amusing. No doubt AOL will so filter us out as well. If anyone can figure out why we are getting filtered I would like to hear from you.

This site is great: CandidateWatch details the saga of selection of prospective Tory MPs for the next election. Its author goes under the name: the Snake.

Ever wanted to see a picture of the men of the Dodgeblog? Here is your chance!
The guy making us look vaguely human is Perry of Samizdata.

Despite a horrid meal in Chelsea at “Made in Italy”, we were still on good form. The place was vile and should be avoided for a myriad of reasons, mostly the rude and incompetent staff, the lousy food, and the bad ambiance. However, with this lot it is hard to have a bad time, as you can seeing from our smiling faces.

The boys of Dodgeblog 2003 calendar will be released later this year, priced 5.

Tom assures us he is working hard at recruiting for the “girls of Dodgeblog” calendar. We understand his “interview” procedures are most stringent.

Lord Tebbit has laid the hammer down on dissenters in the Tory Party. He is someone that I used to have respect for; now it is abating. His closure of the Federation of Conservative Students set a very bad precedent. Now if the the present hierarchy does not like you, you can be shut down for no reason. Thanks to this trend, a 50 year old institution, the Young Conservatives, a great institution that some people loathed for their “independent attitude” has disappeared at the national level. They have been replaced by a well meaning organisation, with no cachet, no reputation, and no real presence. It has gotten so bad that some constituencies have reinstated the YCs and seen a marked increase in their membership. The Tory leadership, with good intention, pissed away 50 years of history just to reinvent themselves. Alas, the enemies of the YCs have proceeded to sully their history and slander their members. This revisionism has not actually helped the cause and driven off a lot of under 40s from the Tory Party.

He gave the Tory Party a right to shut down anyone who thinks for themselves or, wait for it, have some fun. It is difficult for me to criticise Lord Tebbit after the sacrifice he gave for the country. Alas, the man is bitter and wrong; he needs to retire from the scene as does Patten, Clarke and the great Shoggoth, Ted Heath. The Tory Party needs to stop telling people under 40 to go away and find ways of attracting them. The whole SAP concept is daft, but it was only created by a few people in CChange and one over-enthusiastic journalistic. The fact that Lord Tebbit has used it as an excuse to launch another pogrom is both sad and pathetic. I hope IDS ignores this advice and continues on as he is now. This is the August silly season and he will only continue the problems created with his horizontal demotion of David Davis unless he stays the course.
