Goliard ponders how it is possible for one to be a member of the clergy of the Church of England if one does not believe the basic tenets of Christianity. This is a question that has always befuddled me as well. It is, however, harder for me to pose the question as a nonbeliever, lest I be thought of as “attacking” the CoE. I have met CoE types who were less deistic than I am, and I am Deist not a Christian! It will be interesting to see if anyone answers his query.
