An Announcement From The Editor’s Desk….....

As most everyone knows, Andrew Ian Dodge has a deep and abiding interest in all things political; in that regard, The Editor is pleased to announce that he will be doing some very interesting work at Politicalia, the venue for political discussion and debate on the web, as they say. This editor is always pleased, in a semi-posessive way, to see a writer with whom she works spread his wings and branch out into such a venue. She wishes him well with his activities at this different, yet compatible site.

In a stroke of genius, Apple has decided to annoy millions of loyal users. In its infinite wisdom. they have decided to ditch their old web-mail service and replace it with .Mac. Alas, the former was free, the latter is not, and the latter has all kinds of “features” most people won’t or can’t use. To make matters even worse, Apple has given all of us with mac.com addys until the end of September to cough up or we lose our addys. Anyone watching the keynote will have heard the dead silence that followed Jobs’ announcement of this idiotic move.

Apple seems to forget that most of the “services” they offer are almost totally useless on 56k. They forget that the rest of the world has to pay local phone charges when online.

Why Apple did not allow people to have a mac.com address for free with no other services I will never know? Now all of us who depend on their forwarding service will have to change our addys once again. Anyone with business cards, like me, are now out the cost of a new set of cards.

It will be interesting to see if there is a mass revolt by Mac users about this idiotic move by Apple. Overall, though, it was a pretty good keynote, if a little short of new hardware. Alas, most people will remember Apple announcing this act of corporate stupidity rather than anything else, rather than OSX 10.2 or the new Imac.

Why must Apple always hurt the ones who love them?

Alright, NZ_Bear has outdone his bearness this time; this piece on the new tip line about terrorists in the US is hysterical. You have to read the whole post. ‘Tis a work of genius, I tell ya!

Iain Murray has written a thoughtful piece on the state of the English nation. He believes there is scope for a “restoration.” He believes that the British people are still religious, even though they may not show it by attending the Church of England, which currently is, by law, the official state church in England, only.

I attended a discussion of disestablishment of the Church of England. Making the case for the retention of its status was Ann Widdecombe MP, who, herself, defected to the Roman Catholic Church over women priests. The room pretty much agreed that most of the leading proponents of the disestablishment of the CoE are from within church itself. They have been, almost enthusiastically, sowing the seeds for the destruction of the church over the last 30 years.

John Bercow MP put the case for the disestablishment, and I agreed with him. I think it would be a better thing to put the CoE out of its state-controlled misery and see if it can stand on its own. I believe it would fall apart and then be reborn in some form or other.

Saudis of all opinions seem to hate the west and like Bin Laden. The so-called opposition Saudis do have criticisms; however, none will give comfort to anyone. Yet again we have a mention of “blood libel” (and its “cover-up” by the Western media) and a hint that the Americans are planning to nuke Mecca and Medina.

As I was walking along to the corner shop this morning. I saw a raven on the ground just standing. Whatever could it mean?

Via Bird Folklore.

”-Ravens have many legends associated with them. England will not fall while Ravens live in the Tower of London is a story still told today. In fact, the government keeps tame Ravens on the ground of the Tower just in case. In Native American legends, the Raven created land by dropping pebbles into the ocean and made the animals of the forest as well as man. In other legends, Ravens have been ill omens of death and destruction.”
