London today is at a standstill because the RMT union has decided to strike and close the underground. They claim their action is over safety on the tube (read: privitisation, which will mean the drek that is the staff might actually get sacked). Alas, it looks rather dodgy since council workers struck yesterday (see how they are “suffering” here) and one of the major unions just elected a former member of the Communist Party, Derek Simpson, as its leader. The unions in the UK are flexing their muscles, threatening a “summer of discontent.” Do these people really hate Labour so much that they plan to deliver number 10 into the hands of the Conservatives? Are they that stupid? Well, yes, it seems the unions are that dumb. More power to them; strike as much as you like and often as you like.

Today is one of those times when working from home has even more going for it.

Update: Alice Thompson muses today about 70’s style strikes. And here Leo McKinstry does as well.

Patrick has written about the bitching about Microsoft. Yes, techies bitch about MS, but MS allows them job security. If the dominant platform were Mac there would be need for fewer techies. With OSX server/OSX, Macs are considerably more reliable, and thus require fewer people to keep them working. If you are a techy you desperately want MS to stay popular: it is a matter of making a (very) good living.

Shane of MacEvangelist has posted his observations on yesterday’s keynote speech at MacWorld New York. He beat me to the punch, but I shall be adding my thoughts to the mix soon.

A Shout From The Den….....

Someone has contacted John Weidner that he has a translation of the Iran letter, referenced previously on this site, ready for posting in both .gif and .pdf . This is a most imporant part of this informal BlogBurst, as not all the web-crawlers in Iran read English.
