Brendan has a few things to say about the quality of writing in blogdom. I think a few of the critics might find it useful to re-read and take some advice. It is long and a bit pompous, but then, again, in blogdom, who isn’t? One man’s pompous prat is another’s amusing clever blogger. A good example of this is Den Beste, who is as much reviled by some as he is adored by others. I find much of his stuff turgid and plodding, but that does not mean I am not prone to scan his posts a few times every week.
In general, I agree with Brendan that long posts do not work well in the blog format. Short posts tend to be better, and more interesting, than long-winded ones. Remember, gentle bloggers, many people who read blogs don’t have lots of time on their hands and appreciate quick snappy reads. (Or for that matter are reading at work and can’t afford to stay on a blog for a great deal of time.) I have discussed this at length with Tom of Samizdata and Reuters; we agree on the subject.
