A Snarl From The Den….....
MommaBear will be delivering this snarl in two related parts, rather like using an over/under shotgun.
In both cases she will be blasting away at the faults inherent in Very Large DataBases [hereinafter referenced as VLDBs]. If Blogger’s archive/link functions actually care to perform as promised, [which seems to be wishful thinking, these days], an example of an egregious gap in Personal Security for Armed Service Personnel caused by the establishment of a VLDB containing personal data which opens these people to all sorts of dangerous mischief is amply demonstrated in this post over at Fusilier Pundit’s up-and-coming blog, Weck Up To Thees.
The difficulties of bloggers being denied use of their essential data is a classic example of a different kind of problem with VLDBs: supporting/accessing applications failing to function from sheer volume of use, faulty coding, or hardware faults. The Law of Unintended Consequences has once again taken control. It will also continue to prevail, since the ability to resolve most of the flaws diminishes by an exponential factor for each successive addition to said VLDB. In this instance, it must be said that the founder of this phenomenal system would have been thought quite mad if he had tried to build such a sizeable fortress and supporting infrastructure at the very outset.
MommaBear hopes and wishes that all users who enjoy the benefits of computer power would keep that Law posted above their little monitors at all times so that they will look beyond just the first step and take care to incorporate enough safeguards into their work to minimize its impact.
