From The Den….....
MommaBear does not have a very high opinion of Homo Sapiens most times, but every now and then one of them does something that changes the picture. Courtesy of Ananova: there was a bright spot and happy ending for a group of people who had a serious problem that was solved by a very kind and honest individual. Smile and be glad there are still some good people around!

Ex-MTV VJ (one of the good ones back in the 80s), Adam “Big Hair” Curry has got his own web-log. Welcome him to my links or go look at it now Adam Curry. This is one of the guys who made MTV, and one that must be really bummed to see how shit MTV has become. Wonder if JJ French or Riki Rachman (sic) have blogs?

A ponderance for those who are so inclined. Is not rock music a classic example of the Anglosphere in action? Rock music (not pop or dance) is almost entirely in English all over the world. If a band from wherever wishes to get rock & roll fame they learn English. Can any one of my readers name me one non-English rock track ever to make it big world-wide? Further, can anyone name a non-English speaking rock band that has ever made it out of their own country and garnered international success? (Oh damn, I can…Rammstein. But there are not many in the entire history of rock & roll.)
It can be argued that a band that wants to “make it” must sing in English if they ever want to break into the two most important markets: the UK & US.
Rock and metal are essentially, like the internet, an Anglosphere construct. Despite the efforts of protectionist governments all over the world, rock music gets everywhere, taking its messages to all who will listen. There are no doubt metal-heads in China, as there were behind the Iron Curtain. Bands like Iron Maiden and the Scorpions were amazed to find thousands of Iron Curtain fans who not only knew them but all their music including their latest releases.
By way of explanation for this train of thought: I have been asked to write on the links between hard rock/heavy metal and libertarianism by the Libertarian Alliance. I believe the ideas of libertarianism and the Anglosphere go hand in hand. Both rely on the essense of freedom of the individual and individual sovereingty.
Anyway, the point of this post is that the Anglophere works without any help on the Internet & in rock music. How far can the movement get when we actually try to espouse the ideas and values of the Anglosphere? Whether rock’s detractors care to admit it, the sex, drugs and rock & roll attitude has done more expand the ideas of freedom, liberty, and individualism than any other manner of spreading these ideas.

Expect to see the banner above this post to disappear presently. Mommabear, in her continuing effort to make viewing this page as pleasant as possible, has paid the fee to get it removed. [ed. – blabbermouth was NOT supposed to tell]

Congratulations to the Conservative Party in the UK as a Labour MEP defects to the party. IDS, who has been a bit of laughting stock in political circles, might finally be getting his own back. This is the first time this has happened since the late 70s/early 80s.
It is, of course, a wonderful smackdown to the few Tory MEPs who have been whining about IDS’ European Policy. Will this be the first drop in a flood? We must just wait and see. Comments are off for this postCthulhu Virus?
