Must be something about my ornery personality, but every time I see a patronising anti-smoking advert, I want to light up a cigar. In the latest one you have some 34 year old whining about having cancer. He never mentions how much he smoked; it might work better if he did. Truth be told he probably smoked 3 packs a day for 10 years. That amount of anything would make you sick!
It does get better, they are now using a dead heroin addict to convince people not to do “drugs.” I fear this will fail as well. Either it will desensitise people to seeing this type of death and/or young adults will have no sympathy for her. Everyone, even those who use heroin, know it is really dangerous stuff. There are rock stars who did heroin because it was highly dangerous and fit in with the lifestyle. Heroin, in some minds, is the ultimate act of rebellion. This advert will do nothing to end this reputation.

It seems that television is available in the hills of Scotland after all. (A scottish freind of mine was asked by an ignorant American if they “had electricity up there”.) A group calling itself the Scottish Nationalist Liberation Army sent packages of “caustic substances” disguised as aromatherapy oils to Cherie Blair, a MSP’s aide, and 14 other as yet unfound packages. No doubt this is a tactic aping the Anthrax cases in the US. Has Scottish Nationalism moved onto to “direct action”, or is this just another nutter? Only time will tell.
Not to be left out, so called “dissent Republicans” have injured two children at a horse meeting in Northern Ireland. Look for coverage of both things on Ananova.com

Today saw left-wing apologists for terrorists and some Muslims gather at Trafalgar Square in London. While they chattered about UK/US imperialism they said nothing about all those killed by terrorists. There was a heavy police presence in the area, and these cretins managed to bung up most of central London for their rally. It was the hard-left in all its glory, a sickening display of people who provide succur and support to murders and bombers.

Front Page has a couple of very interesting articles on Islam. The more interesting of the two is Islam: A Defective Civilization? by Robert Locke; it may in fact raise the hackles of many an apologist for the religion on the left; a few believers might be rather peeved as well. The Axis of Evil and the American Left by David Harsany explains the difficulty the left has accepting the fact that there is evil in the world.

A Growl From The Den…......
Dell, like many corporations, loves to get referrals for sales. Amongst other arrangements they have made is one that makes a direct donation to an organization dedicated to the elimination of personal possession of firearms. Now, due to an unfortunate incident in their trying to comply with U. S. export rules, which, we can all rest assured are a bureaucratic hornet’s nest, they ended up refusing an order to a legitimate firearms dealer inside the U. S., based, naturally, on a computer-driven screening process for certain key words in the original order. That is where the problem lies that was raised at Sierra Times. That has apparently been resolved in some fashion.
What remains troubling, though, is that a persistent and thoughtful reader of InstaPundit took the time to discover that there is, indeed, a very REAL commercial connection to HCI-”The Brady Bunch” group that changes its name as often as Prince. Their page of affiliated vendors who remit a direct commission for direct sales referrals is in black and white [sorry, blue].
At any rate, it should be made known to those who believe in the 2nd Amendment in its full sense…spend your money where it will help, not hurt. Whatever you do, make sure you never knowingly contribute to the enemies of the 2nd Amendment. Find out from ANY vendor if there is even the remotest chance that any of your money will be going to someplace that is out to take away your rights. Consider this Fair Warning.
